Air Mauritius launches direct flight from Chennai starting April 13, ET TravelWorld

Air Mauritius, the national carrier of Mauritius, is set to inaugurate direct flights from Chennai to Mauritius starting April 13, 2024, marking a significant milestone in air connectivity between India and the picturesque island nation.

The airline will operate a weekly flight every Saturday from Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, using an Airbus A330 aircraft equipped with 254 seats. The flight, numbered MK 747, will offer travelers a seamless journey with a flight duration of 5 hours and 45 minutes from Chennai International Airport in India to SSR International Airport in Mauritius.

The flights from Chennai to Mauritius will begin on April 13, 2024. The flight number is MK 747 and it is scheduled for Saturdays. The departure time is 03:35 and the arrival time is 07:50.

On the other hand, the flights from Mauritius to Chennai will start on April 12, 2024. The flight number is MK 746 and it is scheduled for Fridays. The departure time is 18:30 and the arrival time is 01:50.

Laurent Recoura, Officer in Charge, Air Mauritius, expressed delight at restarting operations from Chennai after a four-year hiatus, emphasising the strong cultural and historical ties between Mauritius and India. He highlighted Mauritius’ natural beauty, sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant marine life, inviting travelers to experience the island’s rich cultural heritage.

These flights will provide a seamless travel experience and enhance accessibility across Southeast Asia, thereby strengthening economic ties between the nations. IndiGo now operates 37 weekly flights between India and Bangkok. The introduction of these flights will further bolster the airline’s international connectivity.

Arvind Bundhun, Director, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, hailed the reinstated flight as a significant step in facilitating travel for visitors from Southern India. He thanked Air Mauritius for spearheading the initiative, which not only meets the growing demand for seamless travel experiences but also strengthens ties between the two nations.Mauritius, known for its pristine beaches, lush mountains, and UNESCO World Heritage sites, offers a unique blend of cultures originating from Europe, India, Africa, and China.
