Malaysia Airlines & IndiGo ink codeshare agreement for enhanced connectivity, ET TravelWorld

Malaysia Airlines and IndiGo have officially solidified their strategic codeshare partnership, marking a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity between India and Malaysia. Following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in April 2024, this collaboration is set to elevate the travel experience for passengers, offering wider access to key destinations across both countries.

Through this partnership, Malaysia Airlines will extend its reach within India by adding its flight code “MH” to seven additional domestic destinations, including Kolkata, Varanasi, Patna, Tiruchirappalli, Goa, Bhubaneswar, and Visakhapatnam. This complements the airline’s existing direct services to major hubs such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. For corporate and leisure travellers, this codeshare enhances route flexibility, providing greater options for exploring India’s cultural and business landscapes.

Meanwhile, IndiGo will add its flight code “6E” to Malaysia Airlines’ domestic flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1, giving its customers access to popular Malaysian destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching. The partnership promises to open doors to some of Malaysia’s most scenic and vibrant locations, benefiting Indian travellers looking to explore Malaysia’s diverse offerings.

Speaking on the collaboration, Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director, Malaysia Aviation Group, expressed enthusiasm about the potential impact of the partnership. “We are delighted to embark on this codeshare partnership with IndiGo, recognising the tremendous potential of the Indian market for both leisure and business travel. This collaboration allows us to offer Malaysia Airlines customers greater access to India’s rich cultural and economic landscape while warmly welcoming IndiGo passengers to experience the unique charm of Malaysian hospitality. Our goal is to provide more travel options, enhanced connectivity, and a seamless travel experience for our valued customers.”

IndiGo’s CEO, Pieter Elbers, echoed these sentiments, stating, “It is a delightful moment for us to formalise this codeshare partnership with Malaysia Airlines. This strategic alliance is a testament to our commitment to bridging the skies between India and Malaysia, unlocking unparalleled connectivity and convenience for our customers in both countries. This collaboration not only expands travel options but also strengthens the cultural and economic ties between the two nations.”

The partnership also aligns with ongoing efforts to boost tourism between India and Malaysia, bolstered by visa-free entry for tourists from both countries. This strategic agreement reflects the two airlines’ commitment to enhancing travel experiences by providing passengers with more flexible, efficient, and connected journeys between these two vibrant regions.
