Turkish Airlines reports 10% growth in traffic, carries 6.1 million passengers in December, ET TravelWorld

Turkish Airlines has released its monthly traffic report for December 2023, showcasing healthy growth in both passenger and cargo operations. In December 2023, Turkish Airlines experienced a remarkable 10.1 per cent increase in the number of passengers compared to the same period in 2022, reaching a total of 6.1 million passengers.

The total load factor for the month stood at an impressive 79.8 per cent. The airline reported a significant surge in international to international passengers, with a remarkable 19 per cent increase from 2.2 million in 2022 to 2.6 million in December 2023.

The December 2023 Traffic Results show Turkish Airlines experienced significant growth in several areas. Available seat kilometers (ASK) increased by 19.4 per cent to 19.8 billion compared to December 2022. Additionally, cargo/mail carried during the period increased by 15.8 per cent, reaching 159.7 thousand tons.

When looking at the overall annual performance, the airline’s strong growth continued throughout the year of 2023. The total number of passengers increased by an impressive 16.1 per cent to 83.4 million compared to the previous year. The number of international to international passengers carried also rose by 27.1 per cent to 29.8 million.

flynas records 11 million passengers in 2023, observes 28% rise

The LCC has taken delivery of 19 new aircraft during 2023, upscaling fleet size to 64 aircraft, an increase of more than 35 per cent. Consequently, flynas launched 57 new destinations and routes to 10 countries during the year, inaugurated its fourth operations base at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, and increased seat capacity by 22 per cent.

Furthermore, the total load factor increased by 1.9 points to 82.6 per cent. The international load factor stood at 82.4 per cent, while the domestic load factor reached 84.3 per cent. In terms of capacity, available seat kilometers (ASK) increased by 16.4 per cent to 234.8 billion.Despite a slight dip, cargo/mail carried during the period remained substantial at 1.66 million tons. Overall, the results show that Turkish Airlines had a successful year in 2023 and experienced significant growth in several key areas. The fleet of Turkish Airlines saw steady growth, concluding December 2023 with 440 aircraft.

Commenting on the results, Turkish Airlines emphasised its commitment to providing efficient and reliable air travel services amid challenging global conditions. The consistent growth in passenger numbers and cargo operations reflects the airline’s resilience and strategic approach to navigating the aviation landscape.
